Siemens Healthcare has announced the newly released Final Rule on ‘Meaningful Use’ of Electronic Health Records.
The Electronic Health Records will give a boost to its ongoing campaign to help healthcare providers realize quality and efficiency gains through the use of health information technology. Hospitals and eligible providers must meet specified criteria through use of their EHR if they want to qualify for incentive payments as stated in the HITECH provision of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA), including requirements against which EHRs will be officially certified.
Charlene Underwood, director, Government and Industry Affairs, Siemens Healthcare stated that they were hopeful that the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) will complete these important regulations, making it easy for customers to understand what constitutes a meaningful user of an Electronic Health Record and a certified EHR system, while providing an important catalyst to spur further health IT adoption across the U.S. She added that the innovative medical information technology portfolio, coupled with the company’ s strong leadership position in the industry, would help in ensuring customers’ voices were heard and that realistic guidelines were delivered in the creation of these rules.
