Healthcare Technology and News: Healthcare Tech Week in Review: Telemedicine and WiFi Make Inroads

What's new in the world of healthcare tech? Several exciting developments have occurred, many of which concern newly announced partnerships between companies.

Xirrus, a well-known provider of High Performance WiFi, recently announced that it is going to deploy Xirrus high performance 802.11n WiFi Arrays at Professional Hospital Supply (PHS). PHS chose Xirrus WiFi Array platform because it needs only a few access points when compared to other WiFi vendors -- almost a two to one ratio. That means only half the switch ports, cable runs, and devices are required for installation and management. As such, PHS feels it made a good choice.

The Indiana Network for Patient Care (INPC), one of the highest volume health information exchanges in the United States, in conjunction with Golden LivingCenters,  is expanding to include post-acute care facilities, bringing the benefits of secure health information exchange to a growing number of individuals who often have significant health care needs

Stellaris Health Network and Dell have announced the signing of a seven-year agreement designed to help Stellaris achieve even greater efficiencies in its daily IT operations. The agreement will help position Stellaris to exceed industry standards for the application of information technology for clinical effectiveness and patient safety.

Another, unrelated collaborative effort was announced when Voltage Security, a provider of end-to-end data protection, and the American Medical Association, announced that Voltage will provide secure e-mail communication for the AMA's new health information platform for physicians. SecureMail, as the new option is called, will encrypt and protect e-mail communications sent between physicians, patients and the medical community. Voltage secure e-mail helps members of the medical community meet federal and state healthcare privacy regulations such as HIPAA and HITECH.

Viper Networks, Inc., an emerging global telecommunication network operations and technical management company, has entered into an agreement with iNeedMD, Inc. to deploy a telemedicine network throughout Europe and the Middle East. The system will enable patients and doctors to exchange live diagnostic information remotely, and allow continuous patient monitoring 24/7.

No matter which field the healthcare tech news came from, it seems like companies are practicing partnerships that can be beneficial for all parties.
