Healthcare Technology and News: Marvell's MED Tablet Caters to Healthcare Industry, Gives iPad a Run for its Money

It's obvious to any tech junkie that there are obvious pros and cons of Apple'snew iPad; for one, the lack of Flash or camera abilities makes it less than attractive for those on-the-go picture fanatics. But, on the flip side, the Kindle like reading capabilities, as well as consistent Internet access, make it quite the package for some consumers.

And while some of the pros are fun for the casual user, certain markets like the healthcare industry are having difficulties adopting the expensive device into its modern technology and protocol.

However, a new product from Santa Clara, Calif.-based Marvellcould offer an alternative for the healthcare market. Moby MED is a planned tablet computer line that will have the major missing feature of the iPad - a camera that supports Flash. With the ability to capture 1080p HD video, the Flash compatible device has a built-in microphone and can accommodate external memory cards.

But more importantly, what competition does this pose for the iPad? Apple could not be immediately reached for comment.

Marvell officials said that the tablet is specifically geared towards the healthcare market, which capabilities to allow physicians to consult with patients remotely in real-time and allow consumers to manage their own health histories in a highly secure, encrypted environment.

It also supports multitasking in side-by-side windows, 3D graphics and can serve as a mobile wireless hot spot for as many as eight devices.
