Healthcare Technology and News: New Human Atlas 2.0 iPhone App


Houston-based Blausen Inc., a developer and owner of a large library of 3D medical animations, has announced the release of their so-called “Blausen Human Atlas 2.0” for the iPhone.
 
The application, developed in partnership with CodeMorphic, offers 3D images and videos of 150 common medical treatments and conditions. It also provides point-of-care access to common medical treatments and conditions, with accompanying narration and the new version also has increased medical content and enhanced functionality.
 
According to Blausen, the Human Atlas iPhone digital resource tool is derived from Blausen's proprietary medical animation library, containing over 7,000 individual animations and 13,000 illustrations.
 
Some of the new features in the 2.0 version include a 360 degree rotatable 3D Human Figures showing nine full body systems, a searchable 1,500+ term medical glossary, a cross reference to related animations, images and definitions, as well as still images from the 3D animations and the ability to purchase optional expanded content atlas upgrades.
 
For a patient of caregiver, the company says, the new app is an ideal resource that can create a foundation of understanding and help alleviate fears and concerns by simply explaining and showing in 3D animation of the basic anatomy and physiology as it relates to common medical treatments and conditions.
 
Bruce Blausen, founder and CEO of Blausen has commented that they have worked on the feedbacks they received for the 1.0 version and have upgraded the version 2.0 with increased content with the medical glossary and the still images, and enhanced ability to manipulate and rotate individual body systems.
