Healthcare Technology and News: Inphonite's VoIP Solutions Aid Medical Clinic

Inphonite, formerly JulySoft, has announced that its automated software messaging solutions – called “Inphonite ReminderPro” and “Inphonite LabRetriever” – have boosted office productivity for its customer, the Del Mar Family Practice of San Diego, by managing and maintaining appointment rates, and rapid retrieval of laboratory test results and their immediate, confidential dispatch to patients.

“ReminderPro and LabRetriever work together seamlessly with our practice management system to provide us with a very efficient and easy-to-use solution that we trust and rely on,” said Joseph Quadros, office manager for Del Mar Family Practice.

Official sources say that the Del Mar Family Practice has three physicians at the clinic who collectively treat on an average nearly 2,600 patients per month, which works out to 130 consultations per day for a five-day week.

With ReminderPro and LabRetriever, say officials, the clinic has been able to use the solutions to automatically deliver 400 appointment reminders by telephone and electronically dispatch several hundred laboratory test reports to its patients per week.

Importantly, while the physicians’ working hours are clearly defined from 7.45 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Monday to Friday only, the automated solutions work ceaselessly 24 x 7 and seamlessly together to find, receive, dispatch, accept, store and process related digital information.

“As productive as it is for our staff by not having to make hundreds of phone calls per day, the systems are even more beneficial to our patients by delivering their information at a time that is convenient to them,” said Quadros.

All data considered, says the clinic, the two solutions have been found to do the work of nearly two full-time equivalent resources, and have significantly improved the patients’ experience and satisfaction indexes. The effectiveness and efficiency of the solutions may be gauged by the fact that the Web home page of clinic declares, “We are currently accepting new patients.”

ReminderPro is a PC and Internet-based IP telephony solution that delivers automated appointment reminder messages via telephone and email to patients of small, medium, and large medical and dental practices, and requires no hardware purchase. It can be customized to deliver the messages within specific time frames that can be superseded based on case criticality.

LabRetriever works continuously in the background as a call-in hotline for patients and allows the clinic’s staff to dedicate more time and provide personalized attention to the patients instead of getting tied down by admin duties.

An incidental, but important positive factor of LabRetriever is that it can be allegedly tweaked to handle Electronic Health Records.

HealthTechZone recently reported that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009 economic stimulus package had set aside $17.2 billion for electronic health records out of $20 billion for Health Information Technology, and has made it compulsory for medicos and related health institutions to migrate all existing paper medical records to EHR by 2015, or face severe cash penalties.
