Healthcare Technology and News: Socket Mobile Unveils Socket Bluetooth Barcode Scanner for Healthcare Industry


Trying to provide improved safety conditions to workers in healthcare industry Socket Mobile has introduced new antimicrobial versions of its Socket Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) Series 7.
 
Employing over 12 million workers, the healthcare industry is the second fastest-growing sector of the U.S. economy. However, healthcare workers face many hazards on the job including needle stick injuries, back injuries, latex allergy, violence and stress. The injuries and allergies can be reduced by using modern technologies such as Bluetooth products.
 
Offered in linear 1D and CMOS 2D imager versions, the new Socket Bluetooth CHS 7NRx and 7XRx plastics are made with antimicrobial materials. Users will now get an extra layer of protection against the multiplication and spread of potentially harmful bacteria and microbes with the antimicrobial coating. The device provides other facilities such as extended battery life and ruggedized, lightweight design.
 
“Studies done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have shown that healthcare-associated MRSA / Staph. Infections are rising in medical facilities due to unfortunate cross-contamination of bacteria from the healthcare providers themselves,” said Bob Zink, senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for Socket Mobile. “The lab test results for our antimicrobial coating show greater than a 99 percent reduction in Staph.”
 
The antimicrobial barcode scanners can easily work with various devices such as the SoMo 650Rx handheld computer, laptops, tablet and desktop PCs and mobile / smart phones. The device can be used in multi shift operation on a single charge and has an ergonomic design. Socket Mobile claims that hospitals can confidently deploy technology devices in healthcare environments with the antimicrobial Socket CHS 7NRx and 7XRx.
 
Recently, the company introduced a new version of its popular Socket Bluetooth Cordless Ring Scanner (CRS) Series 9 for use by mobile workers in a multitude of supply-chain environments. The new Socket Bluetooth CRS features a lightweight, rugged LiquidMetal design that is sealed to IP54 standards and can withstand multiple drops to concrete from 4 feet.
