Healthcare Technology and News: Sprint and BL Healthcare in Pact for Remote Health Management

Telecom giant Sprint announced partnership with BL Healthcare, a provider of next-generation remote health management solutions to the health care industry, to offer 3G connectivity to its telemedicine solutions. BL Healthcare, a participating partner in the Sprint M2M Collaboration Center, offers solutions that allow patients to securely receive professional medical care in their homes, at work, at nursing, and remote clinics such as pharmacies or retail stores, company officials said.

The BL Healthcare solutions allow the right medical professionals to offer appropriate healthcare from any remote location. BL Healthcare solutions are FDA cleared and HIPAA compliant for patient confidentiality.

The new embedded devices join a current ecosystem of both wireline and wireless touch screens, kiosk and television-based solutions to allow medical patients to take a proactive role in the management of their care plan.

“We believe Sprint’s unique combination of network assets and open architecture provide key components in the development of next-generation of remote health care-related services,” said Michael Mathur, president and CEO of BL Healthcare, in a statement.

Mobile health is creating a revolution in both the medical and mobile worlds. The range of additional capabilities from BL Healthcare includes HD multipoint video conferencing, multimedia support for educational programs, instant messaging, real-time alerts and notifications, and the ability to communicate with a wide range of vital sign measurement and peripheral medical devices.

The home care industry is likely to cross $4 billion by 2013. This is perhaps the biggest opportunity for wireless-enabled home care products. Wireless-enabled home care products offer various functionalities including the management of chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes.

“We are excited to enter this partnership with Sprint and develop a new standard for health care management that offers dramatic improvements in the overall quality and efficiency of health care while reducing costs,” Mathur added.

Earlier this year, BL Healthcare announced the launch of its 4G LTE-enabled TCx-I Healthcare Access Terminal that delivers multi-point HD video conferencing with simultaneous sharing of medical telemetry between remote patients and their caregivers.
