Healthcare Technology and News: ZyDoc Joins Verizon Medical Data Exchange

ZyDoc, a provider of NLP structured digital patient records, has joined the newly expanded Verizon Medical Data Exchange, which was launched in March to enable sharing of the electronic health data in the U.S.

ZyDoc will be leveraging this partnership to enable its healthcare customers to share their health data with other members of the exchange. Sharing electronic medical records may prove to be the key to expand the health industry platform, and lead to secure sharing of other types of critical patient health data, including X-rays and lab reports.

Previously the Verizon Medical Data Exchange was used only to facilitate transcriptionist-to-physician and physician-to-physician sharing of dictated notes, which was also a significant EMR adoption technique.

ZyDoc will now be offering the new ZyDoc Medical Knowledge Management Suite to its customers, in order to enable them to use the Medical Data Center Exchange with no significant change in their work habits and interruptions in daily routine. The exchange provides structured extract, and standardized data to populate the EMRs efficiently. This data is the key to utilizing the value of captured healthcare, especially for the documents stored within the EMR, and ensures successful health information exchange between the providers.

There are three interconnected modules for a complete end-to-end, highly integrated standalone solution, which includes ZyDoc Transcription, MediSapien Computer-Assisted Coding, and ZyDoc Clinical Data. The modules have been designed for hospital environments, practice management, academic research, transcription and billing companies, and strategic business analysis.

"The addition of ZyDoc to the broad range of health care providers using the Verizon Medical Data Exchange delivers on our promise to expand its scope. Health care providers are embracing the exchange as a cost-effective solution to share patient data using a simplified, interoperable and secure platform,” said Peter Tippett, vice president of technology and innovation of Verizon. “With providers such as ZyDoc now part of the exchange, it is more representative of the varied players who are key to creating digital health records."

James Maisel, managing director and chairman of ZyDoc, added, "Based on our position as a leader in medical knowledge management solutions, we are strongly in alignment with the goals of the Verizon Medical Data Exchange. Our goal is the same as Verizon's, which is to help facilitate the use of health IT to strengthen the U.S. healthcare system, especially at a time when the industry is undergoing rapid change. Data interchange has become a healthcare IT priority, and reliable and secure medical knowledge management solutions are more critical than ever before."
